Ardmay House International Summer School is a boutique, award-winning, family-run summer camp for British and International students aged from 8 – 16 years old. Set in the stunning Scottish countryside in the heart of Scotland’s first National Park, Ardmay House International Summer School gives students a truly unique experience – trying out new activities, exploring new environments and meeting new friends from around the world.

Students choose from our ‘Ardmay Adventure’ programme (participating in two activity sessions per day) or the ‘Adventure English’ programme, offering 15 hours of English lessons per week as well as a variety of exciting outdoor adventure activities. International students are immersed in English: in English classes, on exciting Adventure Activities and on excursions while exploring the best of Scotland’s culture and attractions.

We are ideally situated on the beautiful shore of Loch Long in the West Coast of Scotland. Ardmay House enjoys both a rural setting and is less than one hour’s drive from Glasgow, Scotland’s capital of culture. Ardmay House is located just outside the village of Arrochar in the heart of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, Scotland’s first national park. It provides the perfect setting for a variety of outdoor activities including canoeing, orienteering and abseiling.

Ardmay House International Summer School is a Victorian fishing lodge located on the stunning banks of Loch Long. Beautifully refurbished the facilities inside and outside are second to none and provide everything your child will need for a fantastic summer school experience. Located in its own private grounds, the house has its own private beach with a seating area that looks out onto the stunning scenery of the loch and the surrounding mountains. Students sleep in spacious dorm-style rooms, each named after one of the beautiful islands of Scotland’s West Coast. The rooms sleep 4, 6 or 8 students of a similar age. There is a separate wing of the house for girls and boys, each with their own toilets and showers. There are separate bedrooms for on-duty staff in each wing of the house allowing 24-hour supervision.

Programmes at Ardmay House 2022 International Summer School

At Ardmay House we offer children the opportunity to learn English in an exciting and stimulating environment. We pride ourselves on making sure that our students feel comfortable ensuring that they build their confidence and are motivated and encouraged to learn English during their time at Ardmay House and on their return to their home country.

Adventure English

The Adventure English option allows students to learn English and experience adventure activities they may have never tried before whilst exploring the beautiful Scottish countryside. This programme comprises of:

  • 15 hours of English lessons per week (taught by highly qualified, native speaking professionals)
  • 15 hours of Adventure Activities
  • One half-day project-based lesson and one half-day excursion
  • Two full-day excursions and an exciting evening activity programme

Ardmay Adventure

For near-native English speakers or those who already have a high level of English, our Ardmay Adventure programme is the ideal option. Students will be immersed in English as they participate in exciting activities throughout the whole day. This programme comprises of:

  • Two half-day sessions per day (or one full day adventure)
  • Activities include: canoeing, kayaking, rock-climbing, abseiling, mountaineering, forest walks, mountain adventure days, mountain biking and archery
  • One half-day project lesson (e.g. Scotland, Sports or Music)
  • One half-day excursion plus Two full-day excursions
  • Exciting evening activity programme

Students are welcome to attend the school for a minimum of one week up to the full six week duration of the summer school.

We offer flexible arrival and departure dates. At AHISS we understand that the best option for flights may not necessarily be on the below dates and we are fully accommodating of this. Outwith weekends (Saturday/Sunday) we charge an airport transfer fee of £50.

The 2021 Summer School prices are as follows:

£    912 per week

Included in the cost is:

  • Accommodation in dorm-style rooms and all meals and snacks (breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner and evening snack)
  • 15 hours of English tuition/week and 15 hours of adventure activities/week (Adventure English) OR 30 hours adventure activities/week (Ardmay Adventure) plus course materials
  • All adventure and evening activities, specialist instruction, use of equipment for activities
  • 24-hour supervision by fully qualified staff
  • Two full day and one half day excursion per week
  • Transfer to/from Glasgow Airport, Prestwick Airport, Edinburgh Airport, or any Glasgow or Edinburgh train station on arrival/departure days. Please note there is a supplement for airport transfers outwith these dates.
  • Weekly laundry service
  • End of course certificate and comprehensive student report
